Thomas Rhett Akins & Lauren Akins | Willa

Raising a child from a different culture can be pretty challenging, but Thomas Rhett Akins and Lauren Akins are keen to teach their daughter Willa about her background to ensure that she stays connected to her heritage. Thomas and Lauren adopted their eldest daughter back in 2017. Willa was born in 2015 in Uganda and waited two years to get adopted. During that time, the couple was also expecting their first biological daughter, Ada James. The couple also welcomed their third daughter Lennon Love last year, in February 2020.

According to the couple, they need to stay open about Willa’s heritage, especially after the young girl started noticing the difference. Moreover, while they’re teaching Willa about her roots, they also try their best to teach their younger kids the importance of embracing diversity. The young family still has many years ahead of them, but the degree of dedication they give to raising their brood is already impressive.
